The history of Israel, beginning with Abraham was as the shadow of divine providence. The main historical events of Israel can be compared as the following: Abraham as the shadow of God, Isaac as Jesus, Jacob as Winner, twelve sons as twenty-four elders, twelve tribes as spiritual armies of 144,000, and the battle of Canaan as the battle of Armageddon that would destroy the power of devil.
Abraham is the shadow of God. He told Abram that he would become the origin of blessing(Gen 12:2), and the father of many nations(Gen 17:4). God also changed his name into Abraham. "Origin of blessing" and "father of many nations" represent God's position.
Gen 12:2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
Gen 17:4 As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations.
Isaac is the shadow of Jesus Christ. God has tested the faith of Abraham to devote his only son to a burnt offering in the mountain of Moriah(Gen 22:2). Abraham has obeyed God's direction and Isaac obeyed to Abraham's. However, God did not really want to receive Isaac as burnt offering. It was only a process for Him to test Abraham's belief, and to show divine providence. Isaac stands for Jesus, God's only begotten son. He has obeyed God's direction and finally got crucified on the cross as a fellowship offering. As a result, His crucifixion achieved living water that could redeem our sins(Zec 3:9, 13:1, Rev 5:6)
Zec 12:10 And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
Zec 13:1 On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.
Jacob is the shadow of the Winner. Jacob has wrestled and won against the Angel and received appellation "Israel"(Gen 32:28). Jacob stands for the Winner(overcomer) as predicted in the Revelation, chapters 2 and 3. Jacob had twelve sons and his descendants became twelve tribes. Likewise, Winner's mission is to complete spiritual Israel's twelve tribes, heavenly armies. New Jerusalem that is written in Revelation 3:12 represents spiritual armies(refer to Rev 21:10). Recording the name of the New Jerusalem on "him" refers that the Winner is to complete the definite numbers(Rev 6:11, 14:1) of spiritual armies with God’s power.
Gen 32:28 Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."
Rev 3:12 Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.
Twelve sons of Jacob are the shadow of twenty-four elders. From Reuben, the first born son, to Benjamin, the last born son, these descendants formed twelve tribes of Israel. Twenty-four elders represent heads of spiritual armies(Rev 4:4). Twenty-four elders came from multiple of twelve, from tribes of Israel, through the ages of the Old and the New Testaments.
Rev 4:4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.
Israel's twelve tribes are the shadow of spiritual Israel(Rev 7:4). They moved into Egypt due to famine and settled down as long as 430 years. During these times, Israelites grew in large number of population. God called these people to destroy sinful land of Canaan. Abraham already had experienced these route where his descendants supposed to go(Gen 15:13-16). Abraham also went to Egypt due to famine, and he came out with treasures. Exodus represents the process of choosing spiritual armies. Just like the Israelites increased in numbers in Egypt, the spiritual Israel should grow in this sinful world.
Gen 15:13-16 Then the LORD said to him, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. You, however, will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.? In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure."
The battle of Canaan is the shadow of the battle of Armageddon. Canaan where people worshipped idols and fell into sins, is a symbol of Hades. Therefore, God expelled them to show the destruction of devil(Exo 34:11). After the spiritual battle of Armageddon and downfall of devil's power, God would save people(Rev 16:16, 19:21).
Gen 34:11 Obey what I command you today. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
Rev 19:21 The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.
Occupation of land of Canaan means the shadow of kings' power in heaven. God drove out Canaan tribes, and distributed their lands into Israel's twelve tribes to let them live there. Spiritual twelve tribes of Israel will be authorized the power as kings to rule over people who will be redeemed from Hades after the destruction of devil's power(Rev 22:5).
Rev 22:5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
Before the appearance of the Winner, Christian religion did not really know about God's profound dispensation. The history of Israel, where it began from Abraham was to send Jesus Christ to this world. With the advent of Jesus, a new stage of God's work began. Since then, Jewish religion has been replaced by Christianity religion to carry out divine providence. The appearance of the Winner means, God's work moved into a farther stage. God's ultimate purpose is to make heavenly armies. Christian religion already knows that Isaac represents Jesus. However, it does not know what next stage will come. Now God's will has begun to reveal by the Winner. The ultimate purpose of God is to destroy His enemy Satan with heavenly armies. The Winner is the one who definitely completes heavenly armies
